RESEARCH INTERESTS

Professionally, I am interested in how visual perception and the way we are wired for narrative shape how we engage with data in its different formats. I am also interested in critical views on data quality, integrity, metric limitations and misinterpretations, including proxy traps and goal displacement.

As a researcher, I am especially interested in mental simulation (including its role in understanding and interpreting language), imagery, face perception, and the cognitive processes that affect memory distortions. I am increasingly interested in all of the above in the context of cognitive development in children.

My broader interests in my free time include visual arts, illustration (especially of children's books), obscure and popular cinema and the impact of narrative and popular media on shaping public opinion and perceptions (especially of science-related topics). I love reading across disciplines and thinking about the different ways in which they approach fundamental questions about us as humans and the world around us.

Since 2021, I have been sharing information on many of the topics above as a writer and science communicator for a children's news media in my native language.
