Dr. Alexander Doronin is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Engineering and Computer Science at Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand. He received his PhD from the University of Otago, followed by a semi-industrial postdoctoral fellowship at Yale University, USA.

Dr. Doronin’s research interests are highly interdisciplinary, situated at the intersection of 3D Computer Graphics, Biomedical Optics, and Artificial Intelligence. His work focuses on the modeling of light transport in turbid media, the development of novel optical diagnostic and treatment modalities, physically based rendering, optical measurements and instrumentation, acquisition and construction of realistic material models, color perception, translucency, appearance modeling, and biomedical visualization.

He has extensive, recognized expertise in the design of forward and inverse algorithms for simulating light scattering in tissue-like turbid media. He developed a generalized Monte Carlo model of photon migration that has been widely adopted as an open-access computational tool by the biophotonics, biomedical imaging, and computer graphics communities.
