Ian Welch received the BCom degree in Accounting, Commercial Law and Information Systems from Te Herenga Waka—Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand, in 1991, and the MSc and PhD degrees in computer science from Newcastle University, United Kingdom, in 1997 and 2005, respectively. Prior to academia, he worked for Andersen Consulting (now Accenture) in New Zealand and the National Health Service in the UK, and was a research associate on the EU MAFTIA project at Newcastle University. He is currently an Associate Professor (Pūkenga Matua) at the School of Engineering and Computer Science, Te Herenga Waka—Victoria University of Wellington, where he is also Programme Director for the BE(Hons) in Cybersecurity.
