I am a geographer, poststructual political ecologist and science studies scholar who works at the interface between science, society and the biophysical environment. Initially trained as a physical geographer, I now use qualitative methods to explore my interests in the power and politics of knowledge: especially for conservation and environmental restoration in colonised landscapes.

Among other things, I have published on the inconspicuous geopolitics of environmental measurement, the contested meanings and metrics of river ‘health’, and how river science might learn from mātauranga Māori and ‘rights for nature’ movements. 

I am currently completing a project on Predator Free 2050 -- an attempt to eradicate possums, rats and mustelids from Aotearoa New Zealand -- and am part of the Our Lakes Our Future MBIE Endeavour Research Programe.

I support students working on a range of topics, mostly regarding the social dimensions of conservation and restoration. These include the relational dimensions of urban stream restoration, kākā parrots as more-than-human urban conservation actors, the meanings of peat bog restoration, governance arrangements for freshwater, and the geospatial politics of conservation park boundaries.
