BIO

Christian is Associate Professor in Management for Sustainability and Director of the Principles of Responsible Management Education (UNPRME) at Wellington School of Business and Government.

Christian's research interests cover three broad areas. Firstly, he is interested in sustainable and regenerative development through business with a particular focus on tourism. This area of work has seen him engaged in research projects in the Sub-Antarctic, South America, the Pacific, and New Zealand. Most recently he has studied regenerative tourism in French Polynesia and served as Editor-in-Chief for Sage's Business Foundations collection focussing on Sustainability. Christian’s second research theme revolves around the related field of education for sustainability and climate change in business schools. This includes research on pedagogies for sustainability education as well as the development of research-informed digital learning tools for sustainability education, which has seen him teach Sustainability-focussed courses in Canada, Colombia, French Polynesia, and Vanuatu. Most recently he published on digitially-mediated experiential sustainability education in Computers and Computers & Education: X Reality and been appointed to the Grand Jury of the prestigious QS Reimagine Education Awards.

Christian was recognised with a 2022 Te Whatu Kairangi | National Teaching Excellence Award and his research-driven VR-for-sustainability education project (which he leads with a small team of university colleagues) was awarded the highly competitive Gold Award Sustainability at the QS Reimagine Education Awards 2020.

He is a visiting scholar at the University of French Polynesia, serves as Associate Editor for Frontiers in Sustainable Tourism, and sits on the editorial boards of four tourism journals.
