BIO
Deepa Chand is a lecturer in Science and Mathematics Education at Victoria University of Wellington. An experienced educator and researcher, she specialises in science, STEAM, and Pacific education. Her work in secondary schools and universities focuses on enhancing students' learning experiences through innovative and culturally inclusive practices.
Deepa has taught pre-service and in-service teachers in Australia and New Zealand. She contributes to Initial Teacher Education (ITE) for primary and secondary education, teaches professional knowledge in Mathematics Education, science education and has previously coordinated the Master of Secondary School Leadership (MSSL) program.
Her comprehensive expertise encompasses curriculum design, including integrated curriculum, professional learning, innovative teaching practices, and Pacific education. Deepa has extensive experience in developing curricula that promote deep understanding in science and mathematics. She also focuses on fostering professional growth among educators, helping them develop innovative teaching strategies such as inquiry-based learning and enhancing their pedagogical skills.
Deepa’s work is deeply rooted in supporting Pacific communities, ensuring educational practices are culturally responsive and inclusive. She continues to inspire and lead with her vision of equitable and inclusive education for all.
