BIO

Gloria (Kāi Tahu, Kāti Māmoe, Pākehā; she/her) is interested in mental health, identity and culture, and how academic teaching and research can make change in the real world. She has previously conducted community-based research about rainbow peoples’ experiences of accessing mental health support and gender-affirming healthcare. Currently, Gloria’s work focusses on eating disorders and body image, particularly among Māori, and increasing the cultural responsivity of clinical frameworks. She is previous chairperson and current pou haumanu (clinical support) of Te Tira Wānanga Māuiui Kai (the national Māori Eating Issues/Disorders Network) and an enthusiastic member of the Te Kura Tātai Hauora Waiata Rōpū.

Gloria is a registered clinical psychologist who continues to practice clinically alongside her academic role. She would dearly love to run a marathon, but her body is not cooperating at present. Empathetic messages regarding running injuries are welcome.
