BIO
Dr Hannah Robinson is a Research Fellow in the School of Biological Sciences (SBS), working on the MBIE 2025 Endeavour Fund Programme "Optimising yeasts for improved flavour in no-alcohol beer and wine" under Associate Professor Simon Hinkley (Ferrier Research Institute) and Dr Peter Bircham (Head of R&D at Garage Project and adjunct SBS Research Fellow). The goal of the programme is to meet the growing demand for beer and wine beverages that are low alcohol but flavourful, and Hannah's contribution focuses on the creation of beer yeast tailored for the production of non-alcoholic beer.
Hannah is a multidisciplinary scientist working at the interface of chemistry and biology: she is experienced in the fields of microbiology, molecular biology, in/organic chemistry, and analytical chemistry.
Previously, Hannah worked as a Research Fellow for Associate Professor Monica Gerth (SBS), and in this role, she evaluated potential treatments for kauri dieback disease, eventually testing them in plant trials.
In 2020, Hannah completed a PhD in chemistry at the Ferrier Research Institute under the supervision of Associate Professor Simon Hinkley and Professor Bradley Williams (University of Technology Sydney). Her research explored a revolutionary method in which the biocidal ingredient in marine antifouling coatings is scavenged from seawater, thereby circumventing the increasing regulation and environmental concerns associated with the current standard in antifouling technology. Prior to this, Hannah received her MSc degree in Medical Microbiology from the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, working under Dr Jon Cuccui (ArkVax founder CEO) to develop glycoengineering tools for improved vaccine production.
