BIO

I am a lecturer in International Relations and joined the programme in July 2023. Previously, I worked at King’s College London and the University of Warwick in the UK. I completed my PhD in International Relations at the University of Sussex in 2021.

My research and teaching sit at the intersection of global political economy and transnational public policy. Using an historical method, I have been studying how forces and techniques of management have mediated inter-state and social conflict. I have done this in two areas:

First, I have been developing a new critical theorisation of international organisations and global governance. To do so, I have researched the history of European integration to uncover how managerial techniques, with roots in Cold War state planning, came together as the ‘governance paradigm’ in the making of globalisation.

Second, I have explored histories of management in relation to the fiscal politics of the state. I have been particularly focused on the political economy of public sector reform in liberal welfare states. I am currently developing this research further through an interest in the global political economy of defence procurement and its connection to the contemporary crisis of the Liberal International Order.
