Jean Arnold is a senior teacher in the English Language Institute. She received degrees in foreign languages and linguistics, completed the DELTA advanced teacher training programme and has participated in year-long exchange programmes to Germany and Spain. She has taught EFL, ESL, EAP, ESP, teacher training and research methods at universities in Spain, the US, China, Viet Nam, Canada, Myanmar and New Zealand for many years.

Jean enjoys using music in the language learning and teaching process. She co-edited New Ways in Teaching with Music as a way to help others use this powerful adjunct to language acquisition. Jean is a member of Victoria University’s two gamelan orchestras: Gamelan Taniwha Jaya (Balinese) and Gamelan Padhang Moncar (Javanese) and Deutsche Liederkreis (a German singing group). In other attempts to blur the lines between education and enjoyment, she leads ‘English through song’ sessions for the New Zealand English Language Training for Officials students, and she founded two book groups and co-founded a writers’ group in Wellington.
