Jonno is Pūkenga Lecturer in Theatre at Te Herenga Waka — Victoria University of Wellington. His research spans dramaturgy, text adaptation, comedy, devised performance, queer and fat performance. He has written widely on subjects including drag performance, radical fat performance, and the dramaturgies of queer Indigenous performance and HIV.

As a practitioner, Jonno has worked as a director, dramaturg, and collaborative theatre-maker across Australia, the UK and USA. His works have been featured in international festivals such as Outburst Queer Arts Festival, Midsumma, and Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras, alongside further productions and development work for La Mama Theatre, Theatreworks and Melbourne Theatre Company.

Jonno has held Research Assistant roles on Indigenous Performance and HIV (with the Peter Doherty Institute and Melbourne Social Equity Institute) and on the ARC Discovery Project Staging Australian Women's Lives: Theatre, Feminism and Socially Engaged Art. He is a regular contributor to The Conversation, writing on contemporary theatre and popular performance culture. 

He has a forthcoming monograph, Fat Dramaturgies: Queer Performance and the Politics of Size (Bloomsbury).
