BIO
Dr Martin Woods has worked as a nurse and as an academic in three countries (UK, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea) in the past few decades. His doctoral thesis concerned the ‘mobile and transitory’ discourses at play in instances of resistance between parents of seriously ill children, physicians and nurses within health care institutions. He has also researched moral distress in nursing, the caring practices and attitudes of nurses, the ethical decision making and preparation of nurses, and related aspects in nursing education. Currently, he is researching end-of-life nursing issues. He is currently the New Zealand consultant for Ethics & Human Rights with the International Council of nurses, Associate Editor for the Journal of Nursing Ethics, and a member of various New Zealand and overseas organisations such as the Network of International Nurse Ethicists, International Philosophy of Nursing Society, and an appointed member of the International Care Ethics (ICE) Observatory advisory board.
