RESEARCH INTERESTS
My research interests sit at the intersection of circular economy design, Te Ao Māori and Mātauranga Māori-informed practice, sustainable material systems, and design-led innovation. A key focus of my work is furniture design and the role of intergenerational triggers—how objects, materials, and domestic artefacts carry memory, identity, and cultural connection across generations. I am interested in techno-craft approaches that connect digital fabrication, traditional making knowledge, and contemporary materials and processes to support more sustainable and meaningful forms of production. This includes research into timber construction, material reuse, detailing, and the integration of craft-based knowledge within contemporary design practice.
My research also investigates the development of acoustic treatment forms and products for interior environments, exploring the relationship between sound, wellbeing, spatial experience, and material performance. Alongside this, I examine how creativity can be embedded within business and industry through design-led product development processes that encourage experimentation, collaboration, and innovation.
A continuing thread through my work is the development of design initiatives that support craftspeople, local industry, and community-based making practices, strengthening connections between cultural knowledge, sustainability, and contemporary design practice.
