BIO
Dr Simon Granville is an experimental materials research physicist with experience in the physics of materials and nanostructures for electronic devices, particularly for magneto-electronics or 'spintronics', quantum electronic devices, and magnetic sensing. His current research areas are in hybrid superconducting-spintronic devices for cryogenic and quantum computing, and spintronic materials for energy-efficient classical electronics. In these areas he leads multiple programmes supported by New Zealand's Marsden, Endeavour and Catalyst funds.
Simon is a Prinicipal Scientist in the Robinson Research Institute, where he manages the thin film deposition and magnetic properties labs, including New Zealand's only SQUID, PPMS and MOKE equipment for making magnetic, magnetotransport and magneto-optical measurements. He is also part of the MacDiarmid Institute, as a Principal Investigator and the Programme Leader for the 'Towards Low Energy Tech - Hardware for Future Computing' topic. He is a project leader in the Quantum Technologies Aotearoa research programme and a Council member of the New Zealand Institute of Physics.
