BIO

My research and teaching interests range from spatial ecology through to conservation and restoration ecology. I enjoy the integration of modelling, field experimentation and multi-scale pattern analysis.

I studied in the United Kingdom, including two years in Scotland where I completed a Masters in Environmental Science and subsequently conducted river habitat surveys for the Institute of Terrestrial Ecology. I have been involved in community-driven conservation in a variety of countries and settings, joining Victoria University of Wellington as a postdoctoral fellow in 2002.

My current research is taxonomically diverse; it includes monitoring forest biodiversity in response to control of introduced mammals, wetland restoration and the study of urban nature. I have long-standing collaborations with Zealandia in Wellington and the Aorangi Restoration Trust and Wairio Wetland Trust in the Wairarapa who have provided opportunities and support to a range of post-graduate student projects.
